To create my #Jucdesign bags, I use premium quality materials, so using a thread with the right, durable quality is also essential. That is why I chose polyester thread, as faux leather is a dense, inelastic, and often heavy material, and sewing it requires a thread with special properties.
Let’s look at the most important features that make me use this thread from the very first stitch to the last!
Outstanding Tensile Strength and Durability
Bags – especially around the straps, zippers, and the bottom – are subjected to heavy physical wear and tear. Polyester fibers are extremely strong; they don't break easily either during the sewing process (when my sewing machine runs at high speeds) or during the daily use of the bag.
Does Not Damage the Structure of Faux Leather
Unlike cotton threads, the surface of polyester is very smooth. When sewing faux leather, the holes pierced by the needle remain fixed (the material does not "heal" like woven textiles). The smooth polyester thread passes through these holes with minimal friction, so it doesn't stretch them out or start tearing the material.
Does Not Degrade and Is Moisture-Resistant
Cotton and other natural fibers absorb moisture, which over time can lead to the thread weakening, rotting, or molding. Since bags are also used outdoors (in rain and humidity), the water-repellent property of polyester is crucial: it doesn't absorb water and retains its strength for many years.
Minimal Elasticity
Faux leather has a minimal structural stretch, but it is basically a rigid material. Polyester thread has a negligible, optimal elasticity: it gives just as much as the tension of the seam requires under a load, but it doesn't loosen up, keeping the shape of the bag stable.
UV and Chemical Resistance
Polyester withstands sunlight (UV light) well, so the thread won't fade or crumble in the sun. It is also resistant to cleaning agents, which is practical if the faux leather bag needs to be wiped down or cleaned.
