National Batik Day

National Batik Day

National Batik Day (Hari Batik Nasional) is an Indonesian holiday celebrated on October 2. It marks the anniversary of the day Indonesian batik was designated as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth. Cloth made using this technique is also referred to as batik. Batik is made by applying wax to cloth with the help of special tools. Then the cloth is soaked in dye. The wax resists dyes, so when it is removed from the cloth with boiling water, some parts of the cloth remain uncolored. This technique allows to create intricate and beautiful patterns.

Batik is made in various countries, but Indonesian batik is the most famous. Many batik patterns used by Indonesian artisans are symbolic. Special batiks are made to bring good luck, health etc. There are batik designes reserved for special groups of people (bride and grooms, royals, children etc.).

On October 2, 2009, UNESCO recognized Indonesian batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. That is why this date is now celebrated as National Batik Day in Indonesia. On this day, Indonesian people (especially government officials, employees of state-owned enterprises, and students) are strongly encouraged to wear batik.

I love these wonderful handicraft materials so much because many, many hands work on every centimeter, so every meter shines in unique colors, so I can sew special and unique #Jucdesign gymbags from them.
I try to get the most special Indonesian, hand-woven materials as possible, so I always have a #Jucdesign bag in Stock, which I sewed the outer pocket from a wonderful Indonesian handicraft material.
Because they are a handcrafted fabrics, so my #Jucdesign bags made from it are also available in limited quantities.
